  • 4 Times God Proved How Much You are Worth To Him

Your Worth to God

Everyone wants to know what things are worth. Pawn Stars is a popular TV show. In case you’re one of three people who haven’t seen it, people take things to a Pawn Shop in the hopes of getting a lot of money for an heirloom or collectible they own. Sometimes they discover their possession has great value. Other times they learn something they thought was valuable is worthless. Worth is important to all of us, particularly when it comes to measuring our own intrinsic worth. The problem is, how do you measure your worth? Many people go through life struggling with the idea they aren't worth anything to anyone. This is true of people with no faith in God but sadly just as true of people of faith. Of all the questions one may ask, the question of our worth to God isn't hard to answer.

Let’s think about this in the context of the spiritual dilemma we all face. Because of sin we’re all facing a death penalty. Romans 6:23 says the wages of sin are death for everyone. Yet God looked upon the world with favor and love and did something about this problem. He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die in our place 1 Peter 2:24, 2 Corinthians 5:21. No matter how many times you've heard it, it’s still amazing. Jesus died for the sins of the whole world 1 John 2:1-2. Not only that, Jesus’ death was also a public demonstration of the Father’s love for us. On top of that, there’s one more fascinating detail to point out, the timing of Jesus death. I’m not referring to the calendar day in AD 30 - 33 when He died. I’m talking about the strategic time of his death. Romans 5:6-10 identifies four aspects of when God demonstrated His love for us and how much we are worth to Him.

4 Times God Proved Our Worth To Him

  • when we were weak Romans 5:6. We couldn't help ourselves.
  • when we were ungodly Romans 5:6. We were the opposite of everything God is like.
  • when we were sinners Romans 5:8. We actively disobeyed God’s laws.
  • when we were enemies Romans 5:10. We opposed God and worked for the enemy.
The Father chose to prove His love for you. He did it at a strategic time. When you were weak, ungodly, a sinner and an enemy of God. This was to demonstrate His love for you. You were discarded as worthless by the world’s Pawn Shop and thrown on a pile of junk. God the Father walked over and picked you up. He tenderly wiped the dirt from your face. He gently brushed the dust off your clothes. He looked into your eyes and smiled. He pointed toward a hill. You turned and saw a cross. He said, “Do you see how much you are worth to me? You’re worth my Son!” Do you feel loved today? Believe it! Think about that all day. Allow your heart to fill with joy because of it! What helps you to remember how much you are loved by the Father?  Please leave a question or comment below.

I Voted Today Yes, even though it’s a week and a half before official election day, I voted today. Illinois has early voting. Surely you know our motto in Illinois, “Vote early and vote often!” (That’s a joke for my literal readers.) I consider it a God-given responsibility to vote. There aren’t any verses in the
