How Thankfulness Can Be Integrated Into Every Area of Your Life

Top performers such as athletes and musicians talk about the experience of “being in the zone.” In general it describes when a person is able to perform at a higher than normal level. I’ve heard professional basketball players say when it happens it’s like the hoop seems bigger, easier to hit. For a writer it is when the perfect words flow effortlessly from their mind on to the page. What does it look like for a Christian to be in the zone? There are different ways to describe it. Colossians 3:15-17 gives us one description.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

There are several things that happen when we are in the zone as a Christian, having perfect harmony with the Father, Son and Spirit. Peace fills our heart. Christ’s teachings are integrated into our lives. We share with others what we've been taught by Christ. We guide others with godly wisdom. Spiritual songs spring up from deep within us filling our hearts. And we’re overflowing with thankfulness. At those moments we’re usually focused on the hardship. When we’re living in the zone our eyes are upon the Father, Son and Spirit. We see them at work in our lives. We feel their presence. It’s easy to be thankful if gratitude fills one’s heart. Here are 9 different times the Bible tell us to be filled with thankfulness. These will be true if we are in the zone.

4. when we ask God for things Philippians 4:6
5. when we do something in the name of the Lord Colossians 3:17
