We Were Chosen By God As His Inheritance
There's an interesting phrase that kids learn growing up. It’s “I’ve got dibs on that!” Its history is uncertain but it seems to have
its origin in a 17th century game similar to the modern day Jacks game. Its origin may be unknown but the meaning of “dibs” is clear. It means to claim ownership of something. Everyone knows what “I’ve got dibs on the last piece of pizza” means!
Here is an encouraging principle from God’s word. Long ago God said, “I have dibs on you!”

In the last few posts we’ve been looking at the spiritual blessings of being a Christian. The idea that we are God’s possession is one of those blessings. There are three places in Ephesians 1 where we are referred to as God’s possession.
Ephesians 1:11 - In him we were also chosen (as a possession)
Ephesians 1:14 - until the redemption of those who are God’s possession
Ephesians 1:18 - you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people
Earlier in Ephesians chapter one we noted the blessing of being chosen by God. The emphasis there was that we were chosen to be God’s children. That is wonderful by itself. This is a bit different. Here the idea is that we are God’s inheritance.
Although it might seem odd to think of oneself as someone else's possession, it really is encouraging. Think with me for a moment about the idea of an inheritance.
- An inheritance is valued.
- An inheritance is personal.
- An inheritance is important.
We sometimes think of the great things we will get when we get to heaven. That would be our inheritance, the many spiritual blessings we’ve been talking about. Here is a different and wonderful thought! You and I, all of God’s children, are something God is looking forward to as His inheritance!
The Father wants us.
The Father values us.
We are important to the Father.
Even though we won’t fully be His inheritance until the fullness of time, His care and concern for us is just as real today!
Are you going through your day struggling with the challenges of life on your own power? Life is hard. You are the Father’s. Turn to Him. Talk to Him. Pour your heart out to Him. He wants you to do that and He will help you.

The Father’s Loving Plan A plan is great but a loving plan is better! God the Father has a loving plan for you. When people talk about making plans the word “loving” usually isn’t attached. Perhaps right now you’re planning a trip. Even if the plans are to be with loved ones we normally just

The Impact Of The Cross In my last post I said the cross changed everything. Does that seem like a lofty statement? Does it seem like hyperbole? Saying that something is important does not make it so. In the USA we’re in the midst of an election year. Things are happening in this election cycle

The Cross As A Desirable Symbol In our world today the cross is an esteemed symbol. One of the favorite hymns of my parents’ generation was “The Old Rugged Cross.” Many people wear crosses, hang them on walls in their homes, display them in stained glass windows and make the sign of the cross when

My journey of faith started when I was nine years old when I realized that Jesus died and rose again to pay for my sins. At the age of thirteen I felt the call of God on my life for ministry.
I have been fortunate to work in the marketplace for over ten years and in full-time Christian ministry for over thirty years.
My passion is to teach God's Word in such a way that it is easy to understand and so that God uses it to bring about life change in those who hear it.
It is my greatest joy to see God work through me to produce fruit for His glory!
