  • A Mystery Revealed [And You’re Part Of It]

You Are Blessed To Know This Mystery From God

There's a sense of privilege and power that comes with knowledge. This is particularly true when we know something first or before others don't know it. When someone shares important news with us first it tells us that other person trusts us and values us.   That’s just what has happened to those of us who are God’s children. We have been blessed that God has revealed a mystery to us. In Ephesians 1:9-10 there is an amazing statement:

[The Father made] known to us the mystery of his will, according to his [good pleasure], which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

It is easy to read these verses and miss their significance. It may be that you’ve read these verses many times. Let’s unpack the truly amazing elements of this mystery.

God's Mystery Unpacked

  1. "The Father made known the mystery" - The mystery was a divine secret something only known to God. That’s a big deal all by itself!
  2. "of his will" - The mystery pertains to God’s will. It's what He wants and intends to do.
  3. "according to His good pleasure" - God likes His plan. It gives Him pleasure. He’s going to enjoy bringing it to completion.
  4. "which He set forth in Christ" - Christ is at the center of this mystery.
  5. "as a plan for the fullness of time" - The mystery is about what is going to happen at the end of time as we will know it.
  6. "to unite all things" - The way God is going to fix everything is to bring it into unity. Everything will be connected.
  7. "in Him, things in heaven and things on earth" - The unifying factor is Jesus. The mystery is that everything in heaven and on earth will be joined to Jesus. We will all be united.
Even in our sinful, fallen world we know the value of unity. Sports teams playing unselfishly in unity can beat teams with more talented players that aren't unified. Companies unified around a common goal and purpose are consistently more successful than others that aren't unified. Even our human body functions best when unified and healthy. It doesn't function well when fighting germs or bacteria or disease that destroys the unity of our bodies. Many people suffer around the world because nations and political powers are not unified. War and terrorism exist because of a lack of unity. [Tweet "Living our lives in unity with Jesus is how we were meant to live."] When the fullness of time comes all will be in perfect unity in Christ.  When it does it will be beyond wonderful! The mystery has been revealed. It is this truth, this hope that will enable us to face the trials and troubles of this world. And you and I have the joy right now of living in unity with Jesus. It is how life is meant to be lived! Do you have a question or comment? I'd love to hear from you.

The Cross Changed Things More Than Many Realize

The Impact Of The Cross In my last post I said the cross changed everything. Does that seem like a lofty statement? Does it seem like hyperbole? Saying that something is important does not make it so. In the USA we’re in the midst of an election year. Things are happening in this election cycle

The Cross As A Desirable Symbol In our world today the cross is an esteemed symbol.
