Spiritual Warfare Is Everyone’s Issue

Yesterday was National Coffee Day. If you’re a coffee drinker you probably knew that. If not, next year I’ll try to remember to write this post one day sooner. Right now as I write I’m enjoying a free cup of coffee in honor of this day. Many of you reading this don’t understand why people love coffee. If you want to understand click here for a short informative video that gives a good scientific explanation for why this is so. Even if I say you’ll learn a lot and find it fascinating, it’s likely many of you won’t watch the video. You will mentally shrug your shoulders and keep reading. You just aren’t interested. You don’t drink coffee. It’s not for you. Okay, I get it. There are many things in life like coffee that some people are interested in and many others aren’t. I’m sure there is something you’re excited about, maybe tea or sushi, that just isn’t for me. In the church I’ve noticed that many Christians have the same, “It’s not for me” attitude toward spiritual warfare. I’ve heard godly Christians say,

Spiritual warfare isn’t a problem for me. I’ve never been attacked by Satan. If I leave Satan alone he will leave me alone.

Of course, we all know people on the other extreme who think Satan attacks them every day. Many preachers regularly pray to bind and cast Satan out. You’ve probably heard them. Is spiritual warfare one of these issues that’s just for a few people?  No, it’s not. Here are 8 reasons from the Bible why spiritual warfare is an important issue for everyone.

8 Reasons Why Spiritual Warfare Is An Issue For Everyone

1. The first book of the Bible introduces Satan in the story of the Bible. Genesis 3:1-15
2. The last book ends with Satan being judged. Revelation 20:7-10 The book of Revelation is largely about the conflict between God and His children and Satan and his followers.
3. Satan, as the enemy of God and His people, is a major theme in the Bible. There are 126 passages in 35 of the 66 books in the Bible that talk about Satan.
4. Satan is called the deceiver of the whole world. Revelation 12:9
5. The most well known attacks by Satan in the Bible were on Eve and Job. Neither knew they were attacked by Satan. We're told Eve was deceived by Satan. 2 Corinthians 11:3
6. James, Peter and Paul wrote to the church at large warning everyone about satanic attacks. James 4:7, 1 Peter 5:8, Ephesians 6:10-18
7. A primary reason the Bible gives for people not believing in Jesus is they are blinded by Satan. 2 Corinthians 4:4
8. God the Father considers satanic attacks significant enough to give us spiritual armor to resist them. Ephesians 6:10-18

The average Christian cannot recognize when Satan attacks. If that’s you, take comfort. You’re in good company with Eve and Job even though that isn’t really comforting.
