I get it, we're all busy. There are so many things taking up our time. This includes family, work, school, trying to keep up with all the shows on the DVR so they don’t get automatically deleted . . . . life can be crazy at times! Most of us would say there are things we’d like to do but don’t have the time. So we have to make choices. Making the bible study discipline part of your life rewards you.
We all make time for the things that are most important to us. This includes things we want to do and the things we have to do. Where does “study the Bible” fit on your priority list? Hmm. Think back over this past week. How much time did you spend studying the Bible? Yes, you can count the time you spent in church, if you remember learning something.
My goal isn’t to make you feel guilty about not spending much time studying the Bible. Instead I’d like to give you 5 great reasons to study the Bible.
5 Reasons The Bible Study Enriches You
To be inspired - There are stories in the Bible of people overcoming great odds and succeeding. David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 or Gideon defeating thousands of Midianites with only 300 men in Judges 7 are two examples.
To be encouraged - There are stories of people who faced heartbreaking problems and were able to overcome. God blessed the barren Hannah and gave her a son in 1 Samuel 1. There is also the story of Ruth, a tale of unexpected blessing through the midst of tragedy.
To be helped - There are stories of people who were able to succeed in the face of great personal challenges. Studying their lives teaches us principles which can help us as we face trials. The book of Daniel has three examples in chapters 1, 3 and 6.
To be enriched - There are stories of people who turned from lives of disobedience to lives of service who accomplished great things by hard work and perseverance. One of the best examples of this is found in Acts 9. A man named Saul, an enemy of the church who persecuted Christians, met Jesus and became the greatest spokesman for God in his day.
To be intrigued - The book of Esther is a fascinating story of ego, pride, jealousy and justice prevailing in the end.
It’s possible to benefit from just reading these stories. However, there is so much more we can gain when we study them. When we study the Bible we benefit in these ways.
We see deeper truths when we study the Bible that we miss by just reading it.
We remember the lessons better because we spend more time with the passage.
We connect in a personal way and the lessons of the stories become our own.
It may seem like work to study the Bible, and in some ways it is. I think you would agree that most things that benefit us in life require work on our part. If you could use some inspiration, encouragement, help, enrichment or intrigue in your life, set aside some time to study the Bible.

Biblical Advice About Tithing Today I got an email asking about tithing. It’s such an important question that I’m going to devote this post to it. Here’s the question: I would like to understand the commandment in Malachi 3:10 about tithes and offerings. Is God only going to bless me when I tithe and curse
Digging Deeper Into the Law Of Moses In my last post I pointed out that the term “Old Testament Law” is generally used in four ways. For the sake of this post we’re going to use it by its most common meaning. Let’s agree (for this post) that the term “Old Testament Law” refers to
The Old Testament Law Is Not For Today, Or Is It? The Old Testament Law is a confusing topic for many people. I first learned about it as a boy going to Sunday School. The main emphasis was on the Ten Commandments but it wasn’t limited to that. It’s funny how things stick out in
My journey of faith started when I was nine years old when I realized that Jesus died and rose again to pay for my sins. At the age of thirteen I felt the call of God on my life for ministry.
I have been fortunate to work in the marketplace for over ten years and in full-time Christian ministry for over thirty years.
My passion is to teach God's Word in such a way that it is easy to understand and so that God uses it to bring about life change in those who hear it.
It is my greatest joy to see God work through me to produce fruit for His glory!
