Hi Carrie, in Genesis 24 Abraham's servant was asking God to providentially guide him to make the right choice. The servant asked God to reveal the wife for Isaac by one who watered the camels. It wasn't an attempt by the servant to see if God could do something, it was a request that God actually do something, show Him Isaac's wife.

Gideon on the other hand was looking for proof, a sign that God was God. He was looking for verification that God could do a miracle.

It seems the servant had faith in God. It's clear Gideon didn't at that point. He did later!

Does that help?

How is Genesis 24 different than the sign Gideon asked for? It Seems like the servants request was justified.
